Live Nation Canada has been charged over the stage collapse at a Radiohead concert last year which led to the death of drum technician Scott Johnson.

Live Nation Canada and Live Nation Ontario Concerts GP will face eight charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act whilst Toronto-based stage company Optex Staging and Services have four charges against their name.

Radiohead were due to play at Toronto's Downsview Park on 16 June, 2012 before the main stage scaffolding structure collapsed killing Mr Johnson and injuring three other members of the crew.

According to the Toronto Star, the Ontario Ministry of Labour, “alleges that Live Nation failed to ensure the structure was designed and constructed to support or resist all likely loads and forces, it was adequately braced, there were no excessive loads and every employer complied with the act.”

In a statement, Live Nation said: "We absolutely maintain that Live Nation and our employees did everything possible to ensure the safety of anyone who was on or near the stage involved in the tragic incident that led to the unfortunate death of Mr. Scott Johnson."

Mr Johnson’s best friend Paul Bonney told the Toronto Star, “It will never bring Scott back, but [the charges are] a little bit of closure.”

The trial is expected to take place on 27 June, 2013.
