Queens of the Stone Age achieved their first ever No.1 album slot last week after scoring with their latest album Like Clockwork in this week's Billboard 200 tally.

The band's sixth studio album shifted 91,000 copies during its first week Stateside, with 12,000 copies bought as vinyl records - showing that vinyl has again gained a real place amongst music fans.

The American rockers managed to pull ahead of Daft Punk's massive-selling Random Access Memories, which slipped to second place this week. Sleeping With Sirens, a post-hardcore band from Florida, are at the No.3 spot with their third studio record, Feel.

The news comes after QOTSA were beaten to the top spot in the UK by Australian dance duo Disclosure with their debut album Settle.

It was a close race last week when Josh Homme and co were ahead of the dance duo by a couple of thousand copies in the UK's mid-week album charts. The battle lines were drawn when QOTSA said that they were hoping to 'crush' Disclosure and claim the top spot.
