Two people were killed in a car carsh on their way to Bonnaroo festival, Tennessee, last night (13 June, 2013).
Five others were injured in what was an eight-vehicle crash along the Interstate 24, less than an hour from the festival site.
According to police, a big rig drive was unable to stop amidst congested traffic cause be an earlier minor accident. Two cars caught fire, two passengers in the first were pulled to safety, but the two victims in the other could not be rescued and were killed when the car exploded.
"[Emergency responders] were able to put out the flames for one car; they just didn't have enough [time] for the other," said Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold in an interview with a local news station. "So those were the heroes for those guys, because if it wasn't for the trooper and the deputy, they probably wouldn't be here either."
Bonaroo is an arts and music festival. The 2013 line up includes Paul McCartney, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and The xx, among others.
