Gigwise readers have named Jimi Hendrix the greatest guitarist of all time, in our series of polls to put together our readers' ultimate band.

Hendrix topped the poll with a clear lead over closest rival, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, who placed second. Eric Clapton was voted third and Rolling Stones star Keith Richards landed in fourth place, ahead of Guns N' Roses axe man, Slash, who placed fifth.

Hendrix, who died in 1970 was in the public spotlight for just four years, but his guitar skills were so legendary, that over 40 years later, he is still considered the finest guitarist of all time - not least by Gigwise readers.

Gigwise readers previously named Freddie Mercury as their favourite frontman of all time, and in coming weeks, Gigwise readers will be selecting the rest of the ultimate band, picking a bassist and drummer to complete the fantasy line-up.
