Jamie Hewlett collaborator and illustrator Gorillaz has confirmed that he and Damon Albarn are eager to release another Gorillaz album, but not before Blur release new material.
Hewlett revealed that Blur are working on a new studio album at a launch event for his opera in New York recently. As one fan in attendance at the Monkey: Journey To The West event claims he talked about the future of Gorillaz and their reliance of Blur making the first move.
Soon after, posting on the Gorillaz Un-Official fan site, the fan claims that Hewlett said: "There’s a five- year gap between the albums because they take a long time to do and they’re very exhausting and when you’re finished you feel like you need to go do other stuff."
He continued: "So Damon’s touring with Blur – he's doing a world tour with Blur at the moment and then they’re working on a new album so there isn't really time for him, and I'm doing other stuff as well. So I think it’s, um, we’ll come back to it when the time’s right."
In May, on-stage in Hong Kong, Albarn hinted to the crowd of the bands ambition of heading back into the studio during their time there. Subsequently, Alex James revealed that Blur's recent recording sessions there went 'very well'.
