Arctic Monkeys closed day one of Glastonbury 2013 in style last night (Friday) and lead singer Alex Turner believes the Sheffield band 'couldn't have given it any more'.

An estimated 90,000 fans watched Turner and his band perform a wide-ranging set which included early classics such as 'Mardy Bum' and brand new single 'Do I Wanna Know'.

Speaking to NME after their gig, Turner said: "I couldn’t have asked for anything more really – it was cool wasn’t it? My favourite bit was the encore [with Miles Kane]. But then again, the start, 'Do I Wanna Know?', was absolutely amazing too. To see everybody moving like that blew me away."

To the delight of Glastonbury organiser, Arctic Monkeys fully justified their role as headliners with a commanding performance, led by Turner who told the Worthy Farm crowd, "We're going to play new s**t, we're going to play old s**t, we're going to play Glastonbury special s**t."

Tonight (Saturday) will see The Rolling Stones take to the Pyramid Stage to play their debut Glastonbury headline slot and they will have to put on an impressive show to match the Sheffield group's effort.

When asked if they Monkeys planned to stick around, drummer, Matt Helders added: "We’re coming back here tomorrow, we’re hopefully gonna see the Stones. We’re gonna stay for the duration."
