Clash, Coldplay and Vampire Weekend honoured at Silver Clef Awards

The Clash, Vampire Weekend and Coldplay were among the name's honoured at the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards in London yesterday (June 28).

Other winners included Jessie Ware, Labrinth and One Direction who picked up the Best Live Act award fending off competition from The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay.

Vampire Weekend walked away with the Raymond Veil International Award after the success of their 2013 LP Modern Vampires of the City whilst British singer Jessie Ware picked up a richly-deserved Best Newcomer gong.

As previously announced, The Clash were honoured with the Silver Clef Award for outstanding contribution to music in the UK and joined the likes of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd in receiving in award.

Chairman of music therapy charity Nordoff-Robbins, David Munns said: "The Clash's music has just as much influence today as it did when they first came onto the music scene in 1976. It is no wonder London Calling has been described as one of the most influential rock albums of all time."

He added: "Having been enormously influential in the UK music scene for over 35 years, I can think of no band more deserving of this award than The Clash."
