Rod Stewart is baffled about why he hasn't been knighted, despite many of his musical peers such as Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Tom Jones receiving the honour, even with British tax exile status.

Stewart left Britain in the 70's to evade paying 83p in the £1 in tax to the Inland Revenue, he believes this to be the reason stopping him from receiving the honour from Queen Elizabeth II.

The 68-year-old rock legend - who currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Penny Lancaster and their children - says it’s not fair, as fellow British singers like Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Tom Jones who left the UK still were awarded the prestigious title.

Telling the Radio Times magazine, Stewart says: "Mick doesn't pay taxes here and Tom lives in America", Stewart confesses. Although he claims he's "not bothered" about being knighted, he joked about having one thing in common with the queen - his unchanged hair style,

"If my time comes, it will. But if it doesn't, I'm not bothered. The queen and I have one thing in common. The same hairstyle for 45 years!"

Adamant he is a better performer than Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, following review praise of his energetic Glastonbury performance he says, "Mick is a fine blues singer but technically not as good as me. He's made the best of what he's got".

He's also hoping the Stones will end their career soon as he wants to reunite The Faces with his friend Ronnie, adding "Ronnie and I talk about it, and when the Stones finish we'll have a window of opportunity - if we're not on zimmers. Keep the faith."

Rod Stewart now 68 years old, is to appear in a documentary 'Can't Stop Me Now', on BBC One at 10.35pm next Thursday 9th July, about his hard living days on the road as a rock star.
