Manchester synth-pop duo Hurts have revealed they were once considering representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest, but that organisers chose Engelbert Humperdinck instead.
The band have stated their possible interest in an involvement in the annual pop event on several occasions, but recently revealed how close they came to making that interest into reality.
"We'd said in interviews like three years ago that we were interested," explains frontman Theo Hutchcraft in a new interview with NME. "We though it would be quite interesting. We had some ideas for it but then they went with Engelbert Humperdinck."
Hurts have achieved success all over Europe with their throwback 80s sound and their debut album Happiness released in 2010 reached the top ten in twelve European countries, so it doesn't seem too unreasonable for the duo to pen a Eurovision-worthy hit.

Singer Theo and synthesist Adam went on to describe the Eurovision song contest as like the Olympics, saying, "It's a competition for songs which is our job so basically it's the best of both worlds."
Theo mused that people don't take it seriously enough. "When you say it like that, it sounds like mortal combat for tunes. It's not a bit like that but I wish it was."
