Self-proclaimed 'King of New York' Jay-Z has once again tried to push the envelope - this time becoming a literal emodiement of modern art by performing a track from Magna Carta Holy Grail for six hours straight.

The 43-year-old rapper appeared at the Pace Gallery in Chelsea, Manhattan, performing his song 'Picasso Baby' repeatedly for six hours. In the video clips currently available online, fans can see The Hov performing on a white podium surrounded by a crowd of onlookers.

While it is likely that some people in the audience are not Jay-Z fans, members of the crowd can be seen joining in and the 'Jigger' actively patrols the audience singing the lyrics up close and personal. At one point he sits and watches as an audience member takes his place and sings and when another dances. He channels his energy through the crowd and tries to get as many people involved as possible.

While the set list isn't varied, presumably the intention was for the piece to be more or less the same to anyone who wandered in, like a statue or a painting, but with the experience being individual to the viewer. It is certainly an interesting step in Jay Z's career, although moderately pretentious.

The whole performance has been recorded, and the Huffington Post reports that the footage will be used for an upcoming music video. The National recently carried out a similar feat by playing their track 'Sorrow' for hours on end in an art gallery.
