Summer is in full swing, and festival season well underway. This weekend, festival goers will be heading to Suffolk for Latitude - which this year boasts one of the best line-ups of 2013.

The weekend festival, now in its 8th year, prides itself on having more to offer that just music with a diverse range of shows on offer including; bands, DJ sets, stand up comedy, theatre, dance, spoken word and literature. This year the festival comes in the middle of a heatwave, although forecasters predict a slight break from the scorching sun this weekend (which could be something of a relief).

Brought to you by Festival Republic, formerly Mean Fiddler and also organisers of Leeds and Reading, the diversity of acts and big names on show mean that everyone will find something to do at Latitude.

Watch the highlights from last year's festival below:

The Music kicks off on Friday, although for early comers there are a number of spoken word and other performances to keep you occupied on Thursday evening. Check out our recommendations below...

Friday 19 July: There is a lot on offer on Friday, with so much to see it may be hard to decide what to see, but be sure not to miss Chvrches who will be bringing their infectiously bubbly Scottish synth-pop to the UK audiences for an afternoon performance at the iArena. Head down to the Lake Stage if you fancy catchy Danish singer/songwriter , who will perform her distinct brand of spunky, soul-infused electronica ahead of a headline set from soft-spoken folk star Benjamin Francis Leftwich.

If you're planning to spend the Friday evening at the Obelisk stage you’ll get to see big names Macabees followed by Headliners Bloc Party, but if you want something other than the headliners, we strongly recommend Vancouver based duo Japandroids. They will be headlining the iArena, you can expect they will deliver a raucous and energetic performance.

CHVRCHES are one of the highlights of day one at Latitude

Saturday, 20 July: The second day of music brings more great artists to the stages, with the main Obelisk stage featuring an impressive lead up to headliners Kraftwerk, including Jessie Ware, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Hot Chip. German electronica pioneers Kraftwerk will be a show not to be missed, performing one of their hugely exciting 3D sets. Grab your 3D glasses beforehand and don't miss this one.

However if brooding German electro is not your thing, chirpy English rockers Alt-J will be headlining the BBC Radio 6 stage and spooky Canadians Purity Ring are heading up the iArena, bringing their strange style of electronica to UK audiences for a hefty dose of 'witch house' and 'dream pop'.

Alt-J bring their award-winning sounds to day two

Sunday, 21 July: It is difficult to pick a most exciting day from the line up, but Sunday certainly ends the festival in style. You will not want to miss the special appearance from the legendary Bobby Womack, on the Obelisk stage, who will hopefully throw in a couple of classics alongside material from his new album The Bravest Man in the World.

There are lot of interesting artists playing throughout the day including rising guitar bands The 1975 and Swim Deep at the Lake Stage, while Icelandic glitch-pop collective múm will be joining Laura Mvula and iamamiwhoami on the BBC 6 stage.

Psychedelic rockers Moon Duo are headlining the iArena, while the main stage is looking jam packed with James Blake, Local Natives and Grizzly Bear in the lead up to headliners Foals. If you are all tired out of music by today, then it may be worth heading to the comedy stage to catch a special appearance by Eddie Izzard.

Foals will headline the main stage on the final night of Latitude 2013

Latitude is set to be a wild weekend, with a great deal of diversity it could turn out to be one of the biggest events of the summer.
