Bloc Party closed day one of Latitude festival with an epic 90 minute set, packing in the biggest hits of their career into the show ahead of their imminent hiatus from music.

The band performed fan favourites and classics such as 'Hunting For Witches', 'Flux' and 'Helicopter' in their headline set, with new track 'Ratchet' also sounding spectacular during their wilight performance. Kele and co's show to be the band's last in quite some time, as Bloc Party recently announced their indefinite hiatus.

Bloc Party performed without drummer Matt Tong, who was replaced by Sarah Jones from New Young Pony Club. The reason for Tong's absence is currently unknown.

Speaking of the band's troubles, Okereke told the Guardian: "There have been some things going on behind the stages and now we're working our way through it.

"Being in this band isn't always the easiest thing. We're four British young men that maybe aren't the best at expressing ourselves or our emotions."

The Maccabees performed before Bloc Party on the Obelisk stage at the Suffolk festival, with frontman Orlando revealing he was glad when the sun finally dipped below the trees during their sunset show.

"I'm glad the sun has gone down," he told the audience, amid a set packed with indie anthems including 'Pelican', 'No Kinds Words' and 'Toothpaste Kisses', "I've been fighting a losing battle all day."

Rising Scottish electro-pop stars CHVRCHES also proved a standout on day one of Latitude, performing an afternoon set on the I Arena, nestled in the forest on the festival's hillside. The band performed current single 'Gun' and fan favourite 'Recover' alongside new tracks from their debut album, The Bones Of What We Believe.

Speaking to Gigwise ahead of their performance, band member Martin Doherty told us that he hadn't listened to the album for at least three months, due to the band's incessant touring and recording schedule. He added, however, that the band were extremely pleased with the record and promised it would pack plenty of surprises for fans.

Day two of Latitude continues today (20 July, 2013) with a headline set from Kraftwerk, plus performances from Hot Chip, Jessie Ware, Purity Ring, Alt-J, Everything Everything, Jagwar Ma and many more.
