Metallica have revealed that they are planning to make their first album in five years and will set aside time in 2014 to work on a new record.
Drummer Lars Ulrich was speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con where the first full-length trailer for Metallica's forthcoming 3D film, Metallica - Through The Never was unveiled.
Ulrich said: "We'll have run out of excuses for not doing it [the new album] by then. 2014 will be all about making a new Metallica record."
As the new trailer suggests, Metallica - Through The Never is a unique mix between a concert film and a fictional feature. The film's leading man, Dane DeHaan, best known for sci-fi flick Chronicle, plays a roadie who gets sent on an urgent job and ends up on a strange adventure.
A UK release date for the film is yet to be confirmed, but Metallica - Through The Never will be released in IMAX 3D on 27 September, 2013.
