Kendal Calling festival 2013 is go - as glorious summer sunshine bathes the first day of the Lake District bash in a relaxing glow with many great acts set to perform at the event this weekend.

The event, at Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District in Cumbria, is set to see performances from the likes of Primal Scream, The Charlatans, Johnny Marr and many, many more between today and Sunday. The idyllic settings are lifted by warm weather and the lovely boutique vibe and unique activities and stages on offer.

On Gigwise's Calling Out stage, the event kicked off with Planes and Concret Knives packing out the tent in the early afternoon, before the mellow folk of Champs sent Kendal a-swaying with chilled sounds and an interesting re-working of 'Something In The Way' by Nirvana.

Kevin Johnson from Southshields told Gigwise that he loved the atmosphere of the festival.

"We've heard about Kendal Calling and the line-up looks great," he said. "The atmosphere is great and everything looks really cool. It's quite serene. We're really looking forward to seeing Willy Moon and Primal Scream."

Tonight the festival will see performances from Theme Park, Dan Croll, The Heartbreaks, The Lightning Seeds on Gigwise's Calling Out stage, while the main stage features performances from Clean Bandit, Willy Moon, Public Enemy and a headline set from Basement Jaxx.

Throughout the weekend, Kendal Calling will see performances from The Charlatans, The 1975, British Sea Power, London Grammar, Primal Scream, Ash, Seasick Steve, Johnny Marr, Dub Pistols, The D.O.T., Bondax and many, many more.
