A confused student penned a message to Nirvana's former record label Sub Pop, requesting a video message from the band, seemingly not knowing that Kurt Cobain died 19 years ago.

The label were mystified to receive the request, which read: "It would simply be ‘What’s up Virginia Tech? This is Nirvana! Just wanted to wish you guys a Happy Homecoming Week and good luck at the game this Saturday. LETS GO HOKIES!"

The request is reportedly part of a video collage his school is making, and other artists including The Cataracs and Ying Yang Twins are said to be getting involved.

The label responded in good humour however, sending the student a video of staff dressed as Nirvana, reading his request.

The video has been watched over 100,000 times since being posted on 24 July, with one viewer suggesting the clip will irritate Kurt Cobain's ex-wife, Courtney Love.
