Bruce Springsteen's parking tickets cancelled amid council embarrassment

Leeds city council were left red-faced this week after Bruce Springsteen was issued parking tickets for his tour vehicles parked outside a venue he was opening.

The Boss was playing the inaugural show at Leeds Arena on Wednesday night, but found his tour vehicles plastered with parking tickets when he came out. But instead of a fine, Leeds city council have issued and apology for the “embarrassing” incident.

“It was somebody being a little bit stupid and zealous,” Labour leader of Leeds Council Keith Wakefield told BBC News. The wardens in the area apparently got a little carried away while patrolling the area and slapped tickets on vans and buses that were there for the star himself.

“We accept this is a little embarrassing but the attendant was doing his job - if a little too efficiently,” a council spokesman said.

“When you prepare a city to open and host a huge, state-of-the-art new venue, you’re bound to get the odd teething trouble.... Having considered the special circumstances, [Bruce’s] tickets were quickly cancelled.”

Springsteen hmself hasn't commented on the tickets yet

Traffic officers told ITV news that even if there weren’t any other spaces available, no one was allowed to park on double yellow lines, not even roadies. But it has since been discovered that these tickets are expected to be waived as well.

Springsteen’s show at the brand new £60m Leeds venue was watched by 13,500 people, though the venue doesn’t open officially until September 4.
