Mike Skinner has spoken out about Spotify and how musicians 'shouldn't expect to make money' in the modern industry. Watch our video interview with The D.O.T. below.

We spoke to The D.O.T. backstage after they performed at Kendal Calling, when former The Streets frontman Skinner and bandmate Rob Harvey, frontman of The Music, discussed the debate that surrounded Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich pulling their music from Spotify after claiming that it didn't make financial sense for new artists.

"I think you've just got to get used to the fact that is that there's a lot more music out there and more choice than ever and there are a lot more people expressing themselves," said Mike Skinner.

"All it comes down to, is that it's not about anyone getting paid less - it's just a different lifestyle, it's not as extravagant. Recorded music only began 60 years ago. Before that, musicians were just travelling creatives.

"People that have been in big bands that have made a lot of money in the past feel like that sort of thing should go on forever but you're excluding the fact that a lot of people just want to express themselves and you've just got to decide if you're going to be a musician or go andwork in a bank."
