Lady Gaga has revealed the artwork for her new single 'Applause', which sees Gaga with her face painted like a clown. See the artwork above.

The song has been co written and produced by long time collaborator DJ White Shadow, and is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming album ARTPOP.

Commenting on the artwork for the single, she states '"His is one jacket [designed by Gareth Pugh] This is one image. This is one moment. This is one statement.'

She continues, rather more cryptically that the statement is that she is 'not one icon' but 'every icon', adding: "I'm an icon that is made out of all the colors on the palette at every time. I have no restrictions. No restrictions."

The singer is confirmed to appear at the 2013 MTV VMAs to perform the new track, which goes on sale on 19 August, 2013.

She tells WWD in a new interview that the song 'is very fun', describing it as:"Full of happiness, because what I’m saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch.'

Lady GaGa's third studio album 'Artpop' will be released on November 11th.
