Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has revealed that their June gig with The Stone Roses saw them play to the most 'wasted' audience they've seen.

The band supported The Stone Roses at their historic Glasgow Green gig (almost 23 years to the day the performed there during their nineties heyday), and after a 31-year career with Primal Scream, Gillespie claims Stone Roses fans are the most drunk he has ever seen.

"It was great It was pretty intense, 60 000 wasted Glaswegians," he told us at last weekend's Kendal Calling. "They may be the most wasted audience I’ve ever seen. But, I mean they looked as wasted as people at football matches in the 70s that I went to when I was a kid."

He also adds that despite a (slightly) longer career than The Stone Roses, he has no issue supporting the Manchester icons, and reminds us Mani spent more time in Primal Scream than he did with the Roses.

"It’s not a big deal I mean it’s fun, it’s not strange or odd it’s good fun," he says. "I mean, we know them, we know them pretty well you know, Mani was in the Scream longer than he was in Stone Roses."
