It's just as well 2013 has been such a good year for new music, since we've lost so many bands already, as bands buckle under the pressure of fame, expectations on new albums or simply called time on a long and successful career.
The Postal Service are the latest to pull out of the race - and only a few months after the band premiered two brand new tracks, fuelling suggestions that the band were gearing up for a new record. Sadly, that isn't the case, with Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard taking to Twitter to announce the end of the band.
"Hey Chicago, these @PostalService shows at Lollapalooza and Metro will be our very last. Please come celebrate with us!" He wrote online, disappointing Postal Service fans the world over.
So, as another one bites the dust, we look back at more bands and artists who have stepped out of the spotlight in 2013...
