Sketches by Bob Dylan will be displayed at London's National Portrait Gallery from later this month, featuring drawings of people from his life and fictional characters.
Bob Dylan: Face Value, will feature 12 of Dylan's pastel portraits. It will open in September following a two-year discussion between the gallery and the 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' singer - arising from Dylan's admiration of the venue.
"There is an indirect but delightful relationship with Dylan, who is one of our great, even extraordinary storytellers," said NPG director Sandy Nairne "To have his stories in visual form, to allow the viewer to make their own stories from his work, is intriguing."
The gallery say that the works on display 'represent characters, with an amalgamation of features Dylan has collected from life, memory and his imagination and fashioned into people, some real and some fictitious'.

The works come from a book of the same name, released this month, in which Dylan said: "I've done sketching most of my life. In notebooks, on napkins, on rough paper or cardboard, plates and coffee pots … basically when there's something to look at – so it's not new for me."
Dylan has previously had his artwork on display at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz in Germany, the Halcyon Gallery in London and the the Gagosian Gallery in New York.
Bob Dylan: Face Value will be in the Contemporary Collection at the National Portrait Gallery, from 24 August 2013 until 5 January 2014.
