Beady Eye will no longer perform at V Festival next weekend, due to a recent head injury sustained by guitarist Gem Archer.

The full details of Archer's injury have not been revealed, but The Sun newspaper claims he fell down the stairs and fractured his skull.,They are serious enough for the band to have cancelled a number of shows in Belgium and Japan this month, and now their V Festival performance.

A statement from the band has been issued, apologising to fans hoping to see Liam Gallagher and co perform new week in Essex and Staffordshire.

"The band apologise to fans but under the circumstances feel they can not perform without Gem and want to focus on supporting him," it reads.

"Gem was released from hospital yesterday evening (Wednesday 7 August) and is recovering at home though remains under observation."

Earlier this week, V Festival organisers revealed they were still expecting Beady Eye to perform, but this is obviously no longer the case.

V Festival takes place next weekend (17 and 18 August, 2013) and will see performances from Beyonce and Kings Of Leon, among many other major names on the international music scene.

Speaking of their V Festival performance, Liam Gallagher recently told NME: "I want to get back there and smash its head to f***ing pieces man, let people know we’re the bollocks."
