An internal police investigation has reportedly begun, after Las Vegas officers helped Guns N Roses star DJ Ashba propose to his long term girlfriend in a dramatic gesture.

The GNR guitarist took Nathalia Henao on a ride-along in a Las Vegas police helicopter, which then landed on police property, where he got down on one knee and popped the question. While romantic, it appears the US rocker may have been aided a little too much by the police, with an internal investigation into the incident now opened.

"An internal affairs investigation has been initiated to determine if any department policies or regulations were violated in granting this ride-along," said Bill Cassell, a spokesman for the Las Vegas police department.

Following the proposal, Ashba took to Twitter to thank the police for their assistance, writing: "That was the most incredible day of our life!! Special thx to the Las Vegas Police Dept. for the most amazing helicopter private tour over Vegas! We landed in a field at Police headquarters were I had a table set up covered in roses n a bottle of the bubble stuff."

Guns N Roses are currently working on a new album, and are said to be aiming for a 2014 release of their next record.

In May 2013, the band's guitarist Richard Fortus confirmed to Noise11.com that the band have spent a lot of time in the studio working on the new album, and that most of the songs are already completed.

He went on to say that while most of the album is done, it won't be released this year.
