Pharrell Williams has spoken out about his collaboration with Daft Punk on their latest single 'Lose Yourself To Dance', claiming that David Bowie would love the track and could have easily sung it.

The NERD star was speaking in Vibe Magazine, where he appears with Daft Punk on the cover as part of their special 20th anniversary edition. The interview sees them talk extensively about their collaboration on Random Access Memories.

Speaking about the 'statement' behind their latest collaborative single, 'Lose Yourself To Dance', Pharrell paid homage to The Thin White Duke.

"'Lose Yourself to Dance' makes me feel like walking down the street in the middle of the night in London and it’s 1984, 1985," said Pharrell. "I don’t hear ’70s in that at all. For me, it doesn’t sound at all like a Bowie record, but I feel like David Bowie would have loved that record. He could actually sing it."

Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter continued: " We’re trying to define - or redefine - what dance floor music can be. Whether it’s something lighter or something more primer. “Lose Yourself to Dance” is almost this idea of a timeless place or dance floor where you can lose yourself."

He added: "The idea of unity of the dance floor, people being connected."

Earlier this month, fans were delighted to hear that Daft Punk will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony. The pair's appearance at the ceremony came after they cancelled their appearance on US TV show The Colbert Report at the very last minute, much to the annoyance of the show's host, Stephen Colbert.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem Christo cancelled their appearance on The Colbert Report (due to take place this week), due to a contractual clash and prior agreement with MTV to appear at this month's awards show.

The host referred to the duo as 'click and clack' on his show, before revealing their no-show was as much as surprise to him as his viewers. "No one told me until two hours ago," he said on air.

"Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards," he added. "Don't tell anyone."
