Ellie Goulding looks likely to spend a second week at the top of the UK singles chart with her smash hit 'Burn', while Lady Gaga has tumbled four places to No.9.

Last week, the 'Lights' star shot straight to No.1 after shifting an impressive 40,000 more copies than her nearest contender Avicii, who came in at No.2 with 'Wake Me Up'.

Now, the latest midweek charts show that the 26-year-old Goulding  is likely to hang on to the top spots and is currently outselling Klangkarussell and Will Heard's 'Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine)' by 5,000 copies.

Voicing her joy and disbelief, Goulding simply Tweeted:

Elsewhere in the charts, Avicii stands at No.3 with 'Wake Me Up', 'Earthquake' by DJ Fresh is at No.4 and Cedric Gervais' remix of 'Summertime Sadness' by Lana Del Rey completes the top five.

Following a mixed reaction from fans and critics, Lady Gaga's comeback single 'Applause' has slipped to No.9, behind Naughty Paul, Sean Paul and Miley Cyrus.

Over in the albums chart, Richard and Adam hang on to the No.1 spot with The Impossible Dream, ahead of Rudimental who rose back up to No.2 with Home and John Mayer who enters at No.3 with Paradise Valley.

Another new entry is Scottish rock veterans Travis who land at No.4 with Where You Stand ahead of Imagine Dragons who finish off the top five with Night Visions.

Tired Pony, featuring Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Belle And Sebastian’s Richard Colburn and producer Jacknife Lee are likely to debut at Number 6 this weekend with their first album, The Ghost Of The Mountain while Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt is also currently in the top 10 with his debut solo album, Doris at 9.
