Frank Turner has confessed a desire to headline a future Reading & Leeds festival - albeit it a little hesitantly...

The UK star is performing today (23 August, 2013) at Reading Festival, having recently cancelled a number of festival gigs due to ongoing back problems. Turner performs at 4:40pm on Friday of Reading Festival, but admits in the future he harbours secret hopes for later, bigger time slots.

"There's an obvious answer but who knows?" Turner tells Gigwise, backstage at Reading, when asked about his future ambitions. "My music career is already far and above anything I ever imagined. On the one hand I stop thinking of limits for it, but on the other hand if this is the upper limit then I'm satisfied.

"But if I can ever headline... There you go, I've said it. I'd love to. I want to play to as many people as possible but it's reached a point now where I'm just curious."

He also revealed that as a longtime performer at both Reading & Leeds, the festival is one of his favourite shows in the UK.

"I've played here every year since 2007 and this festival has a special place in my heart," he adds.

The singer/songriter has been suffering back problems since June 2013, and spoke of his disappointment at having to cancel scheduled live fans in a personal message to fans.

"It’s become a serious thing, and despite my best efforts to ignore it, bully it into submission or just punk rock through the whole thing, it’s a problem I need to deal with," he wrote. "My doctor has sent me in for a spinal epidural shot tomorrow, which means there is no way I can play at Pukkelpop, Gampel or Highfield Festivals this weekend."
