In a pre-MTV VMAs interview, Canadian electronic artist Grimes has again stood up for Beyonce against those who have criticised her success.
Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, had already written a blog post earlier this year in which she rebuked those who hate Beyonce purely because of her global success, and on Sunday night she reiterated her stance on the red carpet.
While co-hosting pre-show coverage for the awards, held in Brooklyn, New York, Grimes stated; "In my opinion it's kind of crappy to belittle an artist such as Beyoncé just because she is successful. Maybe she's successful because she earned it. You know, she's been working really hard since she was, like, a kid."
She went on to say; "For me, I don't even experience her art as pop music. I think the choreography and visuals of the show, everything altogether is a new thing that works in the realm of pop music, but it's doing a bunch of other stuff too."

Grimes has previously expressed frustration towards those who scoff at her love of pop and hip hop, in her blog post she called Psy a "genius" and also said that without Mariah Carey she wouldn't be the artist she is today.
That didn't stop people flocking away from the dance floor during her recent DJ set in Ibiza, where she played hits from the likes of Taylor Swift and the Vengaboys.
