Due to its huge success across the pond, Katy Perry has decided to bring the UK release of her new single 'Roar' forward to this weekend, which means it will clash with Lady Gaga's iTunes Festival appearance.

The track will be available to buy in the UK from Sunday, 1 September - the same day Lady Gaga performs at London's iTunes Festival. It was originally set for release on 8 August.

The duo were previously pitted against each other when Lady Gaga 'rush-released' her single 'Applause' in America to coincide with Perry's US release date. Perry sold over 550,000 copies of 'Roar' in its first week of release, making it one of the most successful singles of her career - while Gaga's sales were much less impressive.

Katy Perry will perform at this year's iTunes festival, closing the month long event on 30 September. Her pop rival opens the run of gigs.

The success of the track marks a career best for Perry as 'Roar' after it trumped sales of all singles from her 2010 Teenage Dream albuym including 'Firework' which sold 509,000 copies in its first week.

Perry's forthcoming album, Prism is set to be released on 22 October, 2013 and if lead single 'Roar' is anything to go by, the LP will be one of the biggest-selling pop records of the year.
