Miley Cyrus' new single 'Wrecking Ball' was originally set to be recorded by Beyonce for her upcoming fifth studio album, according to fans of the superstar, after piecing together a number of online clues.
In December 2012, songwriter Sacha Skarbek wrote on Twitter that a song he had written for Beyonce had been rejected by the 'Grown Woman' star, and was being recorded by the former Disney child star. He wrote: "Beyonce song now becoming a Miley Cyrus song?!! Good/bad? I don't know??!!!!"
When quizzed by a fan about the track, Skarbek replied simply: "Ask Dr Luke."
Both Skarbek and Dr Luke are credited as writers on 'Wrecking Ball', as revealed in the track's listing on The American Society Of Composers, Authors and Publishers - leading to suggestions that 'Wrecking Ball' is the song in question. See below.
Cyrus premiered her 'Wrecking Ball' video online this week - to the level of controversy and disapproval that we have come to expect from the outrageous US star. The clip sees Cyrus in a series of provocative poses, such as straddling a wrecking ball naked and licking a sledgehammer.

All of the furore, hype and publicity has worked in her favour, as the 20-year-old has now broken Vevo records after receiving 19.3 million views in its first day online. The record previously held by One Direction for their single 'Best Song Ever', which received 10.7 million views on its first day in July.
