Arctic Monkeys have made chart history after hitting No.1 with new album AM, the fifth time they have topped the UK album chart.
AM is the Sheffield rockers' fifth consecutive No.1 album - making history as the first by an independent act to do so. The Official Charts Company reports that the album sold more than 157,000 copies in its first week of release, also making it the second fastest-selling album of 2013 - behind Daft Punk's massive Random Access Memories.
“Congratulations to the unstoppable Arctic Monkeys and all at Domino Records,” said Official Charts Company Chief Executive Martin Talbot. “Scoring a fifth Official Number 1 studio album in a row is an exceptional achievement.”
The album was also nominated for a Mercury Music Prize last week, against the likes of David Bowie, Foals and Disclosure.
