Frank Ocean has spoken out about his youth and growing up in a new interview  - confessing to being a drug dealer in high school.

Speaking to Oyster Magazine, the Channel Orange star admitted that while he was never a bully, he did have a troubled time in his mid to late teens.

"I was a thug," he said. "I sold a lot of cocaine and crack...All the time."

Speaking discovering his love of music in his childhood, Ocean said that he was attracted to 'the fantasy of the lifestyle.

"You know, I didn't ever have a disciplinarian in my creative life," said. "As a young person I didn't have - for lack of a better word - I didn't have a Joe Jackson in my family. I didn't have that sort of overbearing stage-parent… Or, even, I didn't even have a parent who encouraged what I did in that way. And — don't bring out the string section. It's not really sad — what it did foster is."

The Odd Future star continued: "My attitude was pure. I love to make music, and I love to write. It was writing first. I love to write and express myself in that medium, so that was the pure part — just the love of doing something, but there was also this fantasy of what the lifestyle would be and what the trappings of success would be. There are different little montage clips that you make up in your mind, like what a day in the life would be like once you're a fully grown whatever-you're-going-to-become, you know?"

Last month, it emerged that Frank Ocean's cousin would be suing Chris Brown over an alleged assault with his entourage earlier this year.  Sha'keir Duarte has sued Brown for unspecified damages in Los Angeles Superior Court. He claims that he suffered a concussion, humiliation and mental anguish as a result of the attack when he was 'kicked and punched' in a dispute over a parking spot.

The fight took place at Westlake Recording Studios erupted on 27 January. The suit claims that Brown taunted Duarte at the scene and that there were even threats of gun violence.

Chris Brown's Mark Geragos has dismissed the suit and says that they will be counteruing Duarte, arguing: "This is what gives lawyers and lawsuits a bad name is garbage like this."

Frank Ocean himself, however, made it clear earlier this year that he had no intention of pressing charges.
