Producer Dev Hynes has hit out at heroin use, writing a personal message about drug use on Twitter, slamming the use of the class A drug after seeing it affect friends.

Hynes, who produced Mutya Keisha Siobhan single 'Flatline' and Solange's 'Losing You', spoke openly, revealing he had lost a friend to the drug just weeks ago.

"When I was younger heroin was seen as the devil. Something that kills and that genuinely is not 'cool'," wrote the producer. "Now that I'm older and I've seen it kill friends of mine, one of which within the last few weeks, I hold the same opinion."

"Perpetuating myths is nothing to be proud of, neither is "shock reporting" or weird false mythologising, it just creates bigger egos," he added. "I like to think that most people are cleverer than that. It's what I hope, for other people's sake."

The producer's tweets come after the arrest of Diiv guitarist Zachary Cole Smith, who was reportedly arrested with 42 'decks' of heroin on Friday, 13 September 2013 along with US pop singer, Sky Ferreira.

Smith was arrested along with singer Sky Ferreira, for whom Hynes produced 'Everything Is Embarassing' for in 2012. Hynes does not mention either Smith or Ferreira in his tweets about heroin use, but they were posted online in the hours following widespread reports of the duo's arrest on Monday, 16 September 2013.
