You Me At Six: 'Muse and Biffy should win more awards'

'Lived A Lie' band discuss lack of rock recognition by The BRITs and Mercurys

You Me At Six have hit out at UK awards ceremonies, such as the Mercury Music Prize and The BRIT Awards for their lack of recognition of rock bands.

The band's current single 'Lived A Lie' has beomce You Me At Six's most successful single to date, and the band will support 30 Seconds to Mars in November. However, despite a growing fanbase and commercial success, the band claim there should be more acknowledgement of rock music in the UK. See the band discuss the lack of award recognition for rock music above.

"We talk about this a lot; with the BRIT's and the Mercury's we don't really understand why everyone is neglecting a genre of music that right now really needs support," the band tell Gigwise. "There's not many bands out there that are doing well, luckily we are one of them, but in terms of huge media opportunities, they never give anything to rock bands."

"At the BRIT awards last year they were like, "and best Rock Band goes too.....Alt-J" and it's like, oh okay, you have no idea do you? Can you class them as a rock band? And then it puts kids off because all they hear in the media is obviously what the Mercury's and the BRIT's are talking about and it could put kids off listening to this genre of music, which would be a real shame."

"BRIT award nominations should be going to Biffy Clyro or Muse and bands like that, but they're not, which is weird. But hopefully people will catch up."

Single 'Lived A Lie' is out now however the band are yet to announce a release date for their upcoming album.
