Rising teen star Lorde has admitted that she turned down a slot supporting Katy Perry on her upcoming tour because it "didn't feel right".

The 16-year-old singer admitted in her first TV interview in her home country of New Zealand, that although she believes Katy Perry is really talented, it didn't feel right to take her up on the offer of a support slot on the World tour.

In the interview with TV3 show, 3rd Degree Tonight, she also said that things were originally meant to go a lot slower for her.

After being signed at the young age of 12, Lorde wanted to take her time in writing material for her debut album, "I wanted to do my own thing, I said give me some time. I wrote and wrote and wrote."

The 'Royals' singer also mentioned in the interview that she was "disgustingly nervous" before playing to 5000 people in Auckland recently, but that performing is far better than attending school and she's getting used to the life of a popstar.

"This feels like normality. I love it. I get to do these crazy things a lot of people wouldn't normally do."

Lorde's debut album Pure Heroine is available from September 30th.
