Arctic Monkeys are celebrating their best performing album in United States to date, with AM landing at No.7 in the Billboard Hot 200 chart.

Alex Turner and co shifted 40,000 copies of their fifth album in America in its first week, placing them behind Janelle Monae's Electric Lady but ahead of Sheryl Crow's Feels Like Home.

The band have only ever made it into the US top 10 once before, with their second album Favourite Worst Nightmare peaking at No.7 in 2007. Arctic Monkeys' debut, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not reached No.24 in 2006, while Humbug made it to 15 and Suck It And See landed at 14.

Alex Turner and co have seen an increased profile in the US in recent years after acclaimed TV and festival slots and supporting The Black Keys on their last arena tour.
