Placebo frontman Brian Molko spoken out in praise of David Bowie’s return to music - saying that The Next Day gave him 'hope'.
Bowie and Placebo famously collaborated together in 1998 on the band's seminal 'Without You I'm Nothing', as well as performing together at the BRIT Awards on a cover of T-Rex's '20th Century Boy'. They have been close friends ever since.
Now, in an interview with Digital Spy, Molko spoke about the The Thin White Duke's surprise comeback release, The Next Day.
"It's a great record and it gives me a lot of hope,” he said.
Molko also spoke about how withdrawing from the public eye inspired the lead single from their seventh studio album, Loud Like Love. "I probably wouldn't have written a song like 'Too Many Friends' if I actually was on Facebook and if I actually did tweet."
He continued: continued: "If Bowie can make a record in complete anonymity without anybody knowing about it and without it being leaked and without it coming out and surprise everybody the way that he did - and to come back with such a wistful track like 'Where Are We Now?' - then I think there's hope for us, there really, really is. And hats off to him. Touché. Well done David."
The ‘Pure Morning’ singer also admitted their split from previous label Virgin/EMI was “sour”, explaining: “There was nobody left that we had a relationship with - a really good, creative working relationship.”
