The Michael Jackson statue which has stood outside Fulham football club's Craven Cottage grounds has been removed, to the delight of sports fans.

As we reported last week, the Michael Jackson statue, that was erected by the club's previous owner Mohammed Al Fayed as a tribute to the late singer, was to be removed as it did not fit the re-development of the club.

This morning (Wednesday 25th September) workmen detatched the statue from it's podium and returned it to Al Fayed, who is reported to have already received offers for the statue.

Current owner, Shahid Khan revealed that he had listened to the club's supporters and their opinions on the statue and decided that it would not be welcome in the development plans for the football club. Stating that: "I respect Mr Al Fayed and know he had good intentions in paying an individual tribute. However, the removal of the statue is the right thing for Fulham Football Club."

It is said that Al Fayed was close to the singer when he was alive and that Michael Jackson was once spotted at a Fulham game. Despite the reactions of fans, he decided to place the statue outside the grounds in memory of the singer, who died in 2009.
