Daniel Radcliffe has ellaborated on his denial of rumours that he was in line to play Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic of the Queen frontman, but says he'd happily 'have a go' at playing Iggy Pop.

Over the weekend, the Harry Potter star made headlines when The Daily Star reported he was due to replace Sacha Baron Cohen in the movie project about the iconic singer, because he was 'the right height'. Earlier this week, Radcliffe dismissed the rumours in Empire magazine, stating that he was 'totally wrong for that part'.

Radcliffe continued: "If I'd seen a rumour about me playing Iggy Pop, I'd think, 'Hey, I'd have a go at that - that'd be fun!', but Freddie Mercury? No.

"I don't even know who the director is. They seem to be saying it's Stephen Frears and Tom Hooper on the internet. "This is the kind of thing that happens to me and it happens to Emma (Watson) with multiple 50 Shades Of Grey things. When somebody has column inches to fill, they just sub in one of our names."

It had previously been reported that Sacha Baron Cohen had departed the movie due to a disagreement with the 'We Will Rock You' band. Earlier this week, the band's drummer, Roger Taylor has spoken of the bands misgivings at the casting of the comedian.

"We felt Sacha probably wasn't right. We didn't want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved," Taylor told The Sun newspaper. He also added that the biopic was now unlikey to happen at all, revealing that the band were now distancing themselves from the project.

"I thought the music business was slow, but this has been like swimming in treacle," he added. "We need to step back now."

After Cohen left the planned movie, it was reported that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was set to play Mercury by tabloid sources. “Daniel has been told the part is his if he wants it," a source told The Daily Star. "Despite his youth, Daniel impressed movie bosses with his portrayal of gay poet Allen Ginsburg in this year’s movie Kill Your Darlings."

They added:  "Plus, he’s closer in height to Freddie than Sacha, who’s much taller. Daniel can really sing, too."
