Katy Perry has revealed plans for her next album, revealing that she will take inspiration from folk icon Joni Mitchell on the follow-up to Prism.
The 'Roar' star is due to release her third major-label album, Prism, on 22 October 2013, but has already begun planning the follow-up, which seems certain to be taking an entirely different route.
"I'll probably turn into more of a Joni Mitchell," she says in a new interview with Billboard magazine. "As I inch towards my 30s, I think my fourth record will be more of an acoustic guitar album. That's where I started when I was first discovered by Glen Ballard and got my first record deal."
She also adds she feels hesitant about ditching the mainstream sounds which has scored her international, and record-breaking, success, and claims boyfriend John Mayer has been advising her on maintaining her career.
"I can't get ahead of myself. I'm still doing the work: I'm a good balance of left and right brain, and to be an artist with a long career, you've got to have both," Perry added.
"One thing John [Mayer] said to me was, 'It's harder maintaining success than finding it.' I've got a few records under my belt, and I still feel like a brand-new artist. People still want that truth to cut through."
