Lostprophets have issued a statement announcing their split, as former frontman Ian Watkins awaits trial on child sex charges.

Watkins was arrested in December 2012, and currently faces 24 charges that include the rape of a baby and the posession of 'extreme' animal pornography.

Now, the rest of the band have issued a statement on their official Facebook to tell fans that they have disbanded as a unit:

"To our fans: After nearly a year of coming to terms with our heartache, we finally feel ready to announce publicly what we have thought privately for some time," they said.

"We can no longer continue making or performing music as Lostprophets. Your love and support over the past 15 years has been tremendous, and we'll be forever grateful for all you've given us. As we look forward to the next phase of our lives, we can only hope to be surrounded by people as devoted and inspiring as you guys have been. Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike, and Stu"

Ian Watkins, 35, from Pontypridd denies all charges.

He also faces allegations of two counts of rape of a child under one-year of age, one count of sexual assault of the same child and one count of conspiracy to rape another baby. The offences are alleged to have been committed between March 2007 and December 2012.

Watkins' full trial will begin on 25 November and is expected to last a month.
