The creators of Breaking Bad have discussed why they chose Badfinger's track 'Baby Blue' as the backing track in the closing scenes of the hit series' final episode.
Following it's use in the show, online streams of the track increased by a staggering 9,000%.
Now in an interview with Rolling Stone, Breaking Bad's music supervisor Thomas Golubić has spoken out about why the track was used and how creator Vince Gilligan demanded it be used - despite it being famously associated witht the soundtrack to The Departed.
"When he said, 'I think this is the right song for the closing of the finale,' I didn't really hear it," he said. "I thought it was an odd little love song.
"But in came the dailies, with that wonderful crane shot moving over Walter White, and once we played the song, [we thought], 'Oh, I get it now'. This is a love-affair story of Walt and his love of science, and this was his greatest product – his greatest triumph as a chemist. It wasn't about Walter White as a criminal or a murderer or an awful person. It was him ending on his own terms. It felt creatively right."
He added: "I thought, 'Oh dear God,' this song was in the Departed soundtrack. If someone uses a song in an incredibly iconic and wonderful way, the last thing I want to do is utilize it again.
"It seemed like the perfect song to end Walt's last ride into town,"

Speaking to The Radio Times about the show's finale, actor Bryan Cranston told the Radio Times: "Its exactly what he had hoped for. And my hope was that he would be very satisfied with what he's done. And he is."
The Walter White star added: "The ending of Breaking Bad is very unapologetic and exciting. It's a rollercoaster ride."
