Drake's latest album Nothing Was the Same has debuted at No.1 in the US Billboard charts, shifting 658,000 copies in its first week.
The Toronto rapper's much anticipated third studio album is second only to Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience Part 2/2, which sold 968,000 copies, in terms of largest sales weeks of the year.
Nothing Was the Same, which includes hit singles 'Started From the Bottom' and 'Hold On, We're Going Home', is Drake's third album in a row to go to No.1, with debut Thank Me Later reaching the top spot in 2010 with 447,000 copies sold. 2011's Take Care did even better, shifting 631,000 units.

For the first time in a year, the top three US albums are all chart debuts, with Kings of Leon's Mechanical Bull snagging the No.2 spot, and music legend Cher's 26th studio album Closer To the Truth landing at No.3.
Drake topped off a hectic month by announcing last week he would be taking on the role of global ambassador for his hometown's basketball team, Toronto Raptors.
