Actor Joaquin Phoenix has denied rumours he co-produced a Pusha T album track alongside Kanye West, saying he simply "made an introduction to Kanye's camp."

The video for My Name Is My Name track 'King Push' debuted online this week, and Def Jam took to its official Twitter to announce Walk The Line actor Joaquin Phoenix had assisted in producing the track alongside Kanye West.

Unfortunately, the rumours are not true. Phoenix released a statement to XXL today to refute the widely-circulated claims. “While it was widely reported that Pusha T used my beat and that I produced his song, I can’t take any credit,” he said. "A friend’s son played me his music, and all I did was make an introduction to Kanye’s camp.”

It's still slightly unclear as to what the connection is between the eccentric actor and Virginia rapper, but it made for a great news story while it lasted.

Fans were quick to praise the song and express bewilderment at the bizarre pairing. "The dude that played Johnny Cash in Walk the Line made this shit. This. Is. Too. Damn. Cold," one Pitchfork commenter exclaimed.

Pusha T's My Name Is My Name will be released 8th October.
