Dominic Cooper is reportedly interested in pursuing the role of Freddie Mercury in the biopic of the legendary Queen frontman.

With Sacha Baron Cohen dropping out of the project in the summer, sources say that Cooper is now interested in the role. The Latino Review claims a 'trusted' source has confirmed Cooper's possible involvement, following recent rumours that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe would take on the role. Comedian Baron Cohen walked reportedly due to the fact he wanted to do a sex, drugs and rock and roll portrayal of the late Queen frontman.

However, the remaining members of Queen weren't happy with the direction the film was going, preferring a slightly more family-friendly script. ""We felt Sacha probably wasn't right. We didn't want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved," drummer Roger Taylor told The Sun newspaper.

Former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was then strongly rumoured to be stepping into Baron Cohen's shoes, but the actor brushed off the claims, saying  "I'm completely wrong for that part."

Dominic Cooper does seem like a viable choice for the role, considering he sports a resemblance to the late Queen singer, who died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1991 at the age of 45. He also has a decent set of lungs, as he proved in 2008's Mamma Mia!.
