Miley Cyrus guest-hosted US show Saturday Night Live last night, starring in several comedy sketches and performing two songs.

Perhaps relishing not being on the recieving end of the joke, Cyrus mocked the US Government shutdown, announced there would be no twerking as "now that white people are doing it, it seems kinda lame" and impersonated Scarlett Johannson.

Cyrus then took to the stage to perform an amped up version of 'Wrecking Ball', then a stripped down acoustic 'We Can't Stop'. Her performance on the show was generally well-recieved, with Billboard calling it "just the right amount of audacious".

The former Hannah Montana star did not, however, make any reference to Sinead O'Connor, with whom she has become embroiled in a spat with. After the 'Nothing Compares 2 U' singer penned an open letter to Cyrus, warning her of being exploited by the music industry, Cyrus was quick to take to Twitter to compare O'Connor to the mentally ill star Amanda Bynes. She also said "Sinead. I don't have time to write you an open letter cause I'm hosting & performing on SNL this week. So if you'd like to meet up and talk lemme know in your next letter."

Many found Cyrus' response insulting, O'Connor, unsurprisingly, included. She posted another letter threatening the 'Wrecking Ball' singer with legal action and fumed: "Taking me on is even more fucking stupid than behaving like a prostitute and calling it feminism."
