Chris Brown has opened up about his arrest for infamously assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, calling it 'the biggest wake-up call'.
In a new interview with The Guardian, the R&B singer discussed his childhood, and how being arrested for the incident made him grow up.
"I learned from it, and it was almost like… I wouldn't say it happened for a reason, but it was something to trigger my mind to be more of a mature adult. To handle myself in situations, don't throw tantrums, don't be a baby about it," he confessed.
Chris Brown was at the peak of his career when an argument with superstar girlfriend Rihanna turned physical en route to the 2009 Grammy Awards. According to court documents, Brown shoved her head against the window, punched her several times in the face, bit her on the ear and tried to choke her.
The incident caused shockwaves around the world, tainting Brown's reputation forever. However, he's managed to build his career back up despite many other unpleasant stories surfacing about the singer, including altercations with Drake and Frank Ocean.
In addition to speaking about his arrest, Brown also spoke rather candidly about his childhood, making the shocking revelation he lost his virginity at the age of eight. "By that point, we were already kind of like hot to trot, you know what I'm saying? Like, girls, we weren't afraid to talk to them; I wasn't afraid," he said. "So, at eight, being able to do it, it kind of preps you for the long run, so you can be a beast at it. You can be the best at it."
Brown's sixth studio album, X, is set to be released on 3 December, 2013.
