Miley Cyrus has shot straight to the top of the iTunes chart with her latest single, 'Wrecking Ball' - after being released for just 24 hours.

The controversial star raced ahead of new releases from the likes of Eminem, The Saturdays and Conor Maynard.

Eminem's comeback track 'Bezerk' briefly held the No.1 spot of the online store's chart yesterday before Cyrus toppled the rapper. Elsewhere, Conor Maynard's 'R U Crazy' followed by landing at No.3, One Republic's No.1 single 'Counting Star's slips to fourth, while 'Disco Love' by The Saturdays is at No.5.

Cyrus, who releases her album Bangerz this week, made headlines last week after Sinead O'Connor penned an open letter to her, advising her not to become 'a prostitute' to the music industry. Cyrus then responded, mocking O'Connor's past mental health issues.

Amanda Palmer also waded into the argument, claiming that Cyrus was in charge of her own fate and 'writing her own script'.

The 'Wrecking Ball' star also hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live this weekend, but made no mention of the spat with O'Connor.
