When Anna Calvi first came to our attention back in 2010, she won hearts and minds the world over with her dramatic but triumphant sound, her piercing and arresting stage presence and her ever-enigmatic persona.

As she returns with her sophomore album One Breath, we spoke to Calvi about her new record, what drives her, developing as an artist on her own terms, ignoring comparisons to others, the balance between beauty and ugliness and 'surrendering to fate'.
