Lorde has discussed her criticism of fellow musicians such as Selena Gomez and defended her position in commenting on their actions.
In an interview with MTV, the 'Royals' singer said "I think there's a funny culture in music that's only happened over the last 15 years, that if you have an opinion about something in music that isn't 100-percent good, you're a 'hater,' even if you have perfectly reasonable grounds for that critique."

The New Zealand star was discussing recent comments she had made about fellow musicians, including Justin Bieber, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Taylor Swift.
Bieber came under fire from Lorde for failing to provide "a real depiction of what it's like to be a young person". Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' setlist was also mocked - "Do you know they open and close with 'Thrift Shop?'" she quipped. "That's bad."
The 16-year-old also said she was "sick of women being portrayed this way" when discussing the sexual themes in Selena Gomez' track 'Come and Get It'.
However, she said she's not going to be afraid to speak her mind just because she's found fame. "I have pretty strong morals and opinions being in pop music, and I can't help but express those, which I think people appreciate," she continued in the MTV interivew. "I mean, I don't think I say anything that isn't backed up. Most of the time I will stand by things that I've said."
Lorde's debut album, Pure Heroine, will be released in the UK October 28th.
