Interpol frontman Paul Banks and Wu-Tang Clan's RZA have been making an album together, the rapper has revealed.
Fans of the New York post-punk heroes are currently awaiting news on their forthcoming fifth album, but it seems Banks has been enjoying some extra-curricular work - having spent six months in the studio with RZA.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, RZA spoke of his love for the band and said that he owned every Interpol album.
"My manager came to me and said, ‘Who do you want to do an album with?’ I said, ‘Well, Paul just has an energy about him. I think if we put our sandwich together it will be great,” said RZA - describing the material as "very, very different than what I do, but very unique and very peculiar".
He continued: "Me and Paul, we play chess together and just hang out. He came and spent two weeks at my house – I have a guesthouse in my studio.”
When quizzed on a release date, RZA replied that it "won’t be out for a while. It may take us a year to finish this album. That's where my heart is at musically."
Banks has always been vocal about his love of hip-hop, and even released his own mixtape back in January, tastefully called 'Everybody On My Dick Like They Supposed To Be'. He's proven quite popular among rappers, with Azealia Banks covering Interpol's classic 'Slow Hands'. Listen to it below.
Meanwhile, work on Interpol's next album is well underway. Earlier this year, guitarist Daniel Kessler reassured fans on Twitter that new material is progressing well:
And wouldn't ya know it...we started working on another new tune yesterday. August be a breeding ground.-DK
